Technical Services Laboratory Capabilities
Hach Spectrophotometers UV/VIS): Used for wet chemical analysis of water samples of typical components important to water analysis.Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR): Used to identify unknown materials found in water and other industrial systems. HATR stand for Horizontal Attenuated Total References, method for analyzing water based samples.
Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy Microscope (FTIR): Used to identify unknown microscopic sample found in water and other industrial systems.
High Pressure Liquid Chromotrography (HPLC): Used to determine the concentration of organic chemistry in samples.
Gas Chromatography (GC): Used to determine the concentration of organic chemicals in samples.
Gas Chromatography / Mass spectroscopy (GC/MS): Used to determine the concentration of organic chemical with the ability to uniquely identify the material in a sample via a mass spectrometer.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer (NMR): Used to identify unknown material found in samples. Can be used to determine the concentration of material in the sample as well.
Scanning Electron Microscope with Electron Dispersive X-Ray Analyzer (SEM/EDS): Capable of imagining samples (such as corroded pipes) at very high magnification (200,000x). The Electron Dispersive X-Ray Analyzer is able to determine location and concentration of the element on the sample surface.
X-Ray Flourescense Sprectroscopy (EDXRF): Used to determine inorganic components of samples. Can be used to determine the concentration of inorganic components in a sample too.
Inductive Couple Plasma emission Spectroscopy (Normal ICP): Used to determine the concentration of typical inorganic elements found in the water systems. The instrument provides the same information as an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer and more.
Inductive Couple Plasma emission Spectroscopy (High Purity ICP): This system is able to measure the concentration (ppb range) of typical inorganic elements found in boiler water. The instrument provides the same information as an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer and more.
